The NREMT sets up a computer adaptive test for interested applicants in the field of emergency medicine so that they can prove their competency and get certified. As a candidate, you are expected to be trained in CPR, first aid, de-escalation techniques, etc through a 40 to 60-hour course that can be found on the national EMS website before you take this exam!
However, NREMT exams are known to be quite challenging! Successful candidates practice regularly so that they can get these confusing questions right. If you also want to start on your EMT preparation journey while learning from the best, immediately check out our NREMT practice test free bundle and get a better idea of the question type, study guide essentials, and more.
The National Registry of Emergency Medicine has set up a national examination that qualifies an applicant to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). After qualifying in this examination, candidates can apply for an EMS certification.
This exam is a cognitive exam that mostly focuses on basic theoretical knowledge and its practical application in the medical field. Most states in the US accept NREMT scores for hiring and training new paramedics. This is a basic certificate exam that you must pass after which you might need to take additional exams to become a paramedic specialist.
Here is what you can expect when applying for a preliminary or license renewal NREMT examination:
Candidates need to fill up an EMT application to sit for the certificate examination. The application fee for the same is 98 USD.
After filling out the application form, the student is given a particular ID and password to log in on the day of the exam.
The student is given a digitized, linear assessment paper of 70 to 120 objective-type questions. Out of these 10 questions are not scored. Each question only has one correct answer!
The student must correctly answer at least 70% of the questions on the test to pass the NREMT paper.
Results are posted on the National Registry website within 2 to 3 days of completing your test.
If you do not pass, you can repeat the NREMT practice test and apply for another attempt! A student can take the test a total of 6 times.
The NREMT paramedic practice test includes the following main areas of study that you need to know well before you appear for the actual exam. These are:
85% of the total exam is dedicated towards adult patients whereas 15% is dedicated to pediatric care.
To prepare for the NREMT certification exam, make sure to do the following:
Q. Is 70 questions good or bad on NREMT?
Ans. Whether you are offered a 70-question test or a 120-question test, the difficulty level for all questions is similar. The number of questions does not matter and you just need to give 70% answers correctly!
Q. What happens if you fail the NREMT exam 3 times?
Ans. According to the official NREMT guidelines, a candidate can sit for the exam a total of 6 times. So if you fail on the first three attempts and want to continue, you can reevaluate your preparation using an NREMT test practice booklet and try again.
Q. Why is the EMT test so hard?
Ans. The NREMT cognitive exam aims to determine how well the applicant responds in a highly stressful environment. Further, the more right answers you give, the harder the next question becomes.
Q. What happens if you get 120 questions on NREMT?
Ans. If you get 120 questions, do not panic. All you need to do is answer all the questions correctly so that you pass with more than 70% correct responses.
Q. Does EMT prep work?
Ans. The NREMT paramedic practice test is a highly accurate question bank that presents challenging questions in the exact format of the actual exam paper. This preparation method is the best way to get a kick start on your medical career!
