Train the Trainer Courses
An IDPH-approved Train the Trainer Course is required for all instructors. It is not required for instructors with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or higher IF employed at an approved BNATP.
Program coordinators may request any individual instructor to attend a Train the Trainer Course at their discretion.

Course Description:
This course is designed to explain how nursing assistant programs work and
familiarize participants with the laws and rules that govern programs. You
will learn about the many roles of a nursing assistant instructor and how to
implement these roles.
Many facets of teaching and ways to facilitate learning experiences will
be explored. This course will prepare you for your responsibilities as an
instructor and provide the tools needed to function as a novice instructor.
The course is completely online with no face-to-face components
necessary. The course is set up to complete one to two modules per week.
You will have eight weeks to complete the course material, however you
can complete the modules in a shorter length of time if you wish. During
the course, you will complete activities and assessments that will help you
meet the course objectives. At the end of the eight-week course, you will
submit a recorded micro-teaching demonstration to the instructor for review
and feedback.
This course has been approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health
and provides 50 continuing education contact hours to registered nurses
licensed in the state of Illinois upon completion.

This IDPH-approved course is for registered nurses (RNs) licensed in Illinois who are interested in becoming an instructor for Basic Nursing Assistant Training Programs (BNATP). Eligibility requirements include current Illinois RN license, minimum of two years nursing experience, and at least one year of experience caring for the elderly or chronically ill of any age. Students must be approved to register.
The course will be held on campus.
